“The younger Miliband is not at home in front of the camera or chatting casually to a journalist: he is not as natural or relaxed in private as he is in front of a crowd. On a train from London to Preston, it had been agreed I would have 30 minutes to chat to him…The train was crowded and Team Ed appeared at the end of my carriage. The seats were only a row away from where I was sitting.
“That’s the journalist” whispered Ed to his aide. “Don’t go near her” said the aide. I sensed real fear and wondered if I should offer to wear ear plugs and hum to myself…After a long morning, sustained only by a small box of cocktail sausages from M & S, he (Ed) was hungry and wanted the buffet lunch. Unfortunately a supporter also wanted a heart-to-heart. He managed to listen to her for three minutes without once looking up, focusing solely on the chicken wings.”
A description of Ed Miliband’s social awkwardness and great love of chicken wings.
